It wouldn't be a season of The Challenge without lies and betrayal. But season 36 is upping the ante with Double Agents, and EW has your exclusive first look at the trailer for a season that one of the competitors says "gets bigger and crazier" than ever before.
On Thursday, MTV announced that The Challenge: Double Agents would return the long-running franchise to a partner format with 19 espionage thriller-themed episodes shot in Iceland, pitting 30 returning and new competitors against each other "in a game of secrets, spies, and lies" for their share of the million-dollar prize. But while the full cast list was revealed with the announcement, details were kept under wraps on who would be partnered with whom — and it turns out that's because not even the players themselves know who their partners will be for the entire season.
EW can exclusively reveal that while Double Agents will have the Challengers partnered up all season long, those partnerships can/will shift because players can steal partners or be stolen themselves. "If I have to play a dirty game, that's what I'm going to do," Leroy Garrett says in the trailer.
Plus the red skull twist will be returning, raising the stakes even higher. The trailer also reveals more dangerous stunts, with sky diving, underwater action in the freezing cold, and people getting dropped from multiple stories in the air. And fans can also expect full body contact sports, both on and off the field as players can be seen in the footage tackling each other in the house. It's clear that no matter how much The Challenge levels up, some things will never change.
