The First ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2’ Trailer Is Ridiculous

Well, this was unexpected. Out of nowhere comes the first trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows, and it is absolutely, gloriously absurd. Of course, the first film was impossible to take seriously, but it definitely kind of wanted to be. Judging from this trailer, the sequel has just run with the ridiculousness all the way into being what feels like a live-action version, not of the more recent Nickelodeon cartoon or the original Eastman and Laird comic, but of the late ’80s cartoon. Tyler Perry as Baxter Stockman! Arrow‘s Stephen Amell as Casey Jones! Bebop and Rocksteady. The turtles sounding even more like their dialogue was written out on Twitter and Snapchat then transcribed for the script! And the DJ Fresh remix of Run DMC’s “It’s Tricky”!

I’m good with all of that, by the way. The trailer apparently was planned for release Thursday, but we get it tonight. It’s like early Christmas, only with the nativity scene replaced by middle-school-age me playing with action figures and going pew-pew-pew and POW! while moving toys around. Watch it here.

Directed by David Green and written by Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec, it stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard, Brian Tee, Laura Linney, Stephen Farrelly and Gary Anthony Williams, along with Perry and Amell. Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form, Galen Walker and Scott Mednick are producing. It hits theaters June 3.
