The first royal baby of 2024 is here!

Prince Felix and Princess Claire of Luxembourg welcomed their third child, a baby boy named Balthasar Felix Karl, just a week into the new year on Sunday.

The name Balthasar has Greek origins and has a royal meaning: "God protects the king," according to Nameberry. Balthasar was also one of the biblical three kings who visited the infant Jesus, a fitting name given that the new prince arrived near the feast of the Epiphany.

In an announcement posted on Monday, the royal court said, "It is with great joy that we announce the birth of our son. The prince was born on 7th January 2024 at the Maternité Grande-Duchesse Charlotte. The newborn Prince will be named Balthasar Felix Karl. He weighs 3,220 kg and measures 50 cm."

They added, "Prince Balthasar and Princess Claire are in perfect health."

The message was signed by "Felix and Claire" as well as their two older children, Princess Amalia, 9, and Prince Liam, 7.

Prince Balthasar is the seventh grandchild of Grand Duke Henri and Duchess Maria Teresa.

Prince Balthasar won't be the only new addition to Luxembourg's royal family. Last month, they announced that Princess Alexandra and her husband, Nicolas Bagory, are expecting their first child this spring.

The couple married in April 2023 in Luxembourg. A religious ceremony occurred a week later in Bormes-les-Mimosas, France.

"The Grand Duke, the Grand Duchess as well as the members of the two families are united in great happiness,” the court announced.

The new additions will join the line of succession with their cousins. Princes Charles, 3, and Prince Francois, 8 months, are the second and third in the order of succession to the throne (they're the two sons of the Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Princess Stéphanie). Prince Gabriel, 17, and Prince Noah, 16, are the two sons of Prince Louis and his ex-wife Tessy Antony, along with Prince Felix and Princess Claire's now-three children.
