First A Quiet Place 2 photo with Emily Blunt teases setting

Keep silent and stay on your toes because the first official photo from A Quiet Place: Part II has arrived.

Story details on the sequel have been few and far between, though we know it returns Emily Blunt as apocalyptic mamma Evelyn and Blunt’s real-life hubby John Krasinski as director. Now, we have a better idea as to when this next chapter takes place.

The photo sees Evelyn with children Regan (Millicent Simmonds) and Marcus (Noah Jupe) as they approach something in the wild. In Evelyn’s arms is a baby, presumably the same one she gave birth to while hiding from all those giant monsters hunting her for food. That means the sequel picks up shortly after — if not directly after — the events of A Quiet Place.

The first film saw the Abbott family, including Krasinski’s Lee, fighting to keep their home safe from a breed of vicious beasts that took over by hunting through their acute hearing. Spoiler warning: Things didn’t go too well for Lee, so Evelyn and her now-three children are all that remain of this unit.

A Quiet Place: Part II will introduce Cillian Murphy as a man with mysterious intentions who encounters the family. Djimon Hounsou also stars.

“All [Lee] wanted to do was survive,” Krasinski told Total Film. “And [Evelyn] says, ‘That’s not enough. We have to thrive. We have to let these kids be whole human beings’. And after I’m gone, I’m loving seeing Emily really battle with that—that maybe survival was the way to go. And maybe this idea of thriving was too dangerous.”

A brief teaser for the sequel screened in theaters last weekend in front of showings for Black Christmas, though nothing formal has been released online.

The film is scheduled for theaters on March 20, 2020.
