Trap’s first poster has been revealed, and it focuses on Josh Hartnett’s eyes.

That would be weird if not for the film starring Josh Hartnett. He plays a father taking his daughter to a concert, only to discover he’s stumbled into a sting operation designed to catch a serial killer known as The Butcher.

Could Hartnett’s character possibly be that killer? Well, he certainly looks shifty. And at one point in the trailer we see him watching footage on his phone of a bound-up man in his basement. So there’s a slight giveaway there.

Although, saying that, Hartnett’s character is called Cooper in the cast list. He hasn’t actually been referred to as The Butcher at any point. All signs point to Trap delivering another patented M. Night Shyamalan twist.

There’s got to be at least one ground-shaking plot subversion from the director of Signs and The Village, maybe even two.

Trap releases August 9. It’s Shyamalan's first film with Warner Bros. since 2006’s disastrous Lady in the Water (2006). Since then, he’s redeemed himself with a solid run of Split, Glass, Old, and Knock at the Cabin.
