It’s official. Amazon has confirmed the casting of Maggie Q as star of the upcoming Renée Ballard Bosch spinoff series, which Deadline previously exclusively reported. We’re also getting a first look at Maggie Q and Titus Welliver in sneak peek photos of the Renée Ballard crossover episode in the Bosch: Legacy Season 3 finale. You can see above and below. Additionally, Jet Wilkinson has been tapped to direct the first two episodes of the Untitled Renee Ballard series for Prime Video. Wilkinson also will direct the Season 3 finale of Bosch: Legacy, a crossover which serves as the introduction of Maggie Q as Renée Ballard.

The Untitled Renée Ballard series follows Detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q), who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division—a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest case load in the city. Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination. When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she’ll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.

More from Deadline

The Renée Ballard character, which has not appeared on either Bosch or Bosch: Legacy, is based on Det. Mitzi Roberts from the LAPD.

Wilkinson will serve as executive producer for Ballard alongside Michael Connelly, Trish Hofmann, Michael Alaimo, and Kendall Sherwood. Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate executive produce for Fabel Entertainment, with Jasmine Russ serving as co-executive producer. Co-executive producers also include Jamie Boscardin Martin and Trey Batchelor, with Theresa Snider co-executive producing under Hieronymus Pictures.

Season 3 of Bosch: Legacy is based on Connelly’s best-selling novels Desert Star (2022) and The Black Ice (1993).  The murder investigation of Kurt Dockweiler brings dangerous secrets to light and threatens to ruin the lives of our three principal characters. The disappearance of a family haunts Harry Bosch and forces him to confront the limits of justice. In a hotly contested race, Honey “Money” Chandler is poised to become the next District Attorney of Los Angeles. And Maddie Bosch gets entangled in a series of violent follow-home robberies.

Bosch: Legacy, from Fabel Entertainment, is executive produced by Michael Connelly, Eric Overmyer, Tom Bernardo, Henrik Bastin, Pieter Jan Brugge, and Titus Welliver.

Known for her starring roles on Designated Survivor and Nikita, Q was most recently seen in the Skydance & Apple TV+ action comedy The Family Plan with Mark Wahlberg, which became the most viewed movie ever for the service at the time of its debut. Her other film credits include The Protégé, Fear the Night, The Divergent Series, Live Free or Die Hard and Mission: Impossible III. She is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content.

Wilkinson most recently wrapped as Executive Producer and Director on the Apple TV+/Paramount TV Studios series Before starring Billy Crystal. Wilkinson also worked as the Producing/Director on Percy Jackson and directed the finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Wilkinson directed the pilot episode of First Kill, produced by Emma Roberts and the Warrior Nun pilot, both for Netflix. Wilkinson next is set to direct the feature, Mothers, Lock Up Your Daughters Because They Are Terrifying with 21 Laps. Wilkinson is repped by Gersh and Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman.
