First And Last is a video series that uncovers surprising moments in the lives of our favorite figures in entertainment, music, and more. As the subjects are hit with rapid fire questions — forcing them to think of their earliest to most recent bits on the spot — they give us a genuine look into who and what made them into who they are today.

Tone Stith, singer, songwriter, producer, and instrumentalist, chopped it up with VIBE for the latest installment of First And Last. The New Jersey native answered questions regarding his journey, some of his career milestones, and, of course, his love life.

Tone dished on his career first, speaking of the first major song he was credited with as a songwriter. He also opened up about a possible collaboration with Normani — a collab that social media has been clamoring for.

“I’m a go ahead pop my collar a little bit, a writer and producer. The first major song I was credited for was ‘Liquor’ by Chris Brown,” he said. “So really the [inspiration] behind that song was just like, ‘Man, what could really be fun?’ And I just thought about it. I was like, ‘Yo, everybody loves liquor, everybody.’ And so that’s where it came from.”

“When will we get the first collaboration with me and Normani? Well, Normani, you know what it is. That’s my girl. So whenever the time is right, I’m down. You know what’s up. Hit me up. I’m ready,” he added.

From there, Stith disclosed some truths about his dating history. Being the romantic that he is, the “Girls Like You” singer spoke about a few vulnerable moments in his life. A barrage of questions found the musician speaking about the last time he gifted a young lady his heart. “When was the last time I told a young lady, ‘I need you,’ and I meant it?” he pondered before answering with a smirk. “I would say, it was pretty recent within this year, for sure.”

“‘When You Love Someone’ featuring H.E.R… in the opening line says, ‘Didn’t mean to destroy you/ I know I ignored you but I want to be yours,'” he said, wondering when was the last time he resonated with those lyrics. “Man, it’s been a minute since I said that, but I could resonate with that situation because I have been on that side of the fence where I’m like, ‘Ooh, I know in the past I done did some things and I treated you a certain way, but I need you in my life.’ So, it resonated with that line. And so being on the opposite side of that is the hurt, and it hurts a little bit. It’s like, ‘Damn, I’ve been trying,’ but then it do feel good because it’s like, ‘Okay, that person coming back around.'”

Tone Stith then opened up when asked about the concept of love lost. Stith laid it all on the line and vulnerably detailed an instance where a former lover shattered his heart. However, even in his narration, the singer played it cool in only a way Tone can.

“So my first heartbreak, I got to say, I was about, I’d say 17,” he recalls. “And yeah, this girl I was with for two years, I dated a lot of girls before that, but this particular girl, I was like, ‘Yo, I was giving it my all.’ I grew up in a family where I seen my parents really show each other genuine love. So me, I’m like, ‘Let me be a standup guy. Let me really carry my weight in a relationship.'”

“And after a year and a half, she cheated on me and I was just like, ‘Bro.’ And the way I found out it was from another girl, a third party, and it was just like, ‘Yo, I’m going to just tell you this ’cause I’m cool with you. So-and-so did this.’ And I was like, ‘Bro, how? I’m the perfect person?'” he said smiling. “That’s crazy. Nah. But so that was the first time I felt heartbreaking. I was like, ‘Damn.’ Crushed. Crushed.”
