First Global Trailer For ‘Ghost In The Shell’ Unveils Scarlett Johansson’s Cyborg-Human Hybrid

Here’s a first look at the new trailer and poster for Ghost in the Shell, director Rupert Sanders’ live-action take on the classic Japanese manga title. Starring Scarlett Johansson (a hire that drew some “whitecasting” criticism), Paramount’s Ghost in a Shell follows Johansson’s The Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid who leads the elite task force called Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out advancements in cyber technology.

Judging by the new trailer, we can expect a rather sumptuous-looking sci-fi epic, with flashes of The Matrix, Blade Runner and Ex Machina.

The film opens in theaters March 31, 2017, and costars Pilou Asbæk, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche and Michael Pitt. It’s written by Jonathan Herman and Jamie Moss, based on the manga by Masamune Shirow.

The trailer and poster art were unveiled at the film’s global launch event in Tokyo Sunday. Check them out above.
