The vault door has opened, and we’re getting our first look at the Wasteland of Los Angeles. On Saturday, Prime Video shared the first trailer for Fallout, the new series based on the iconic video game franchise, set to premiere on April 12th, 2024. Watch it below.

Set in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles 200 years after a nuclear war destroyed the modern world, the trailer begins with the series’ protagonist, a vault dweller named Lucy (Ella Purnell), exiting her pre-war, underground bomb shelter home to explore what became of the irradiated City of Angels.

Once on the outside, viewers get a delightful sampling of all the wonders and horrors the wasteland has to offer, including: radroaches, yao guai, geckos, Mr. Handy robots, a German shepherd that looks an awful lot like Dogmeat, plenty of Vault Tec iconography, and the Brotherhood of Steel (with their Power Armor suits and Vertibirds, of course). We also get to see the cast in action, including Walton Goggins as a ghoul, Kyle MacLachlan as Lucy’s dad, Michael Emerson as an eccentric wastelander, and what appears to be Chris Parnell as a one-eyed vault bureaucrat (though he hasn’t been officially credited for the role).

Notably absent is any reference to the New California Republic, the in-game government that controls the Southwestern portion of what was once the United States, but otherwise, the trailer seems to indicate that the show has nailed the transition from video game to TV series, especially so far as the franchise’s signature atmosphere goes. Scored by Nat King Cole’s “I Don’t Want To See Tomorrow,” the clip honors the classic Fallout vibe by seamlessly pairing scenes of violence and destitution with zany gallows humor, retro aesthetics, and idyllic Americana.

The Fallout series was first announced in July 2020, and has been brought to life by producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, who both previously worked on Westworld. Goggins joined the cast in February 2022, and MacLachlan signed on in June 2022. The show premieres on April 12th on Prime Video. Check out the first-look images the show released last week.
