The trailer has rock ‘n’ roll vibes similar to Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy vibes, with the action set to Electric Light Orchestra’s “Do Ya.”

Borderlands has been an anticipated title due to its pedigree. It is based on the popular video game series and has long been in the works, with filmmaker Eli Roth completing and releasing an entirely different movie (Thanksgiving) since wrapping filming on the feature. Tim Miller, known for Deadpool, stepped in to oversee reshoots in early 2023 when Roth’s Thanksgiving schedule conflicted.

Gearbox and 2K are behind the video game. Avi Arad and Ari Arad are producing via their Arad Productions banner, and Erik Feig is producing through Picturestart. The film opens Aug. 9 from Lionsgate.
