First 50 customers at Rita's on Friday will receive free Italian ice for a year
This week in the Springfield-area restaurant realm: Rita's is offering free Italian ice for a year and the three area McDonald's restaurants where you can drink coffee with a cop.
Rita's Italian Ice & Custard of Springfield hosts grand opening Friday
Rita's Italian Ice & Custard, 2100 W. Republic Road, Springfield, will host its grand opening Friday. Twenty percent of all sales on Friday will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks.
Starting at 3 p.m., the first 50 customers in line will be awarded free Rita's Italian Ice for a Year. All guests can purchase small Italian ice for $2 or small gelatis for $3. From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., there will be photo opportunities with the company's mascot, Ice Guy, as well as merchandise giveaways.

Select Springfield McDonald's restaurants offer chance for coffee with a cop
Three Springfield McDonald's restaurants will be observing National Coffee with a Cop Day on Oct. 4: 1607 E. Battlefield Road, 2811 N. Kansas Expressway, and 1114 W. Kearney St.
From 8 to 10 a.m., customers will be able to "discuss community issues and build relationships" with local law enforcement.
“We look forward to hosting this event each year in partnership with our local law enforcement,” said Rex McMillan, local McDonald's owner/operator, in a press release. “We hope residents will attend to connect with their local police, engage in open dialogue in a safe and friendly environment, or simply get to know our officers face to face.”
