Fireworks displays, parades to mark Independence Day in Lenawee County

Celebrations of the Independence Day holiday will begin this weekend, and fireworks shows will take place over the next couple of weeks.

June 30

Cornerstone Church in Adrian will have fireworks at the end of its annual Freedom Festival on Friday, June 30, at the church, 1055 W. U.S. 223, Adrian.

The event opens at 6 p.m. and features a concert by Christian rock group Disciple at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person in advance and can be purchased at cornerstoneofadrian.com. Tickets at the door are $15.

In addition to the concert and fireworks at dusk, there will be inflatables and food trucks.

July 1

Posey Lake near Hudson, Sand Lake near Tipton, Wamplers Lake and Lake Columbia near Brooklyn, and Lake Somerset west of Cement City will have their fireworks displays Saturday, July 1.

July 3

The Devils Lake fireworks will take place at dusk Monday, July 3. The rain date is July 4.

Loch Erin's fireworks also will take place at dusk Monday, July 3. If needed, the rain date will be Friday, July 7, or Saturday, July 8, depending on weather.

The annual festivities at McCourtie Park at 10426 S. Jackson St. in Somerset Center are planned for 3 to 11 p.m. Monday, July 3. This year’s event will include a live band, food trucks, games, face painting, balloon art, pony rides, a petting zoo and fireworks at dusk.

The Manchester Men's Club 41st annual Fireworks and Beer Tent featuring Star69 will start at 4 p.m. Monday, July 3, and extend through 2 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, at Carr Park at 599 W. Main St. in Manchester. The event will include food vendors and an onsite ATM. There is no entry fee, but donations are welcome.

July 4

Civitan of Lenawee's Fourth of July Parade in Adrian will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, with lineup starting at 9 a.m. on Greenly, St. Joseph, Company and Chandler streets. The parade will move east on Maumee Street through downtown Adrian to Monument Park.

There is no charge to be in the parade, but entrants must register for a place in line, Civitan said. Contact Carolyn Marr at 734-418-8870 or by email at tcrhythms@tc3net.com to register for the parade.

Fourth of July celebrations in Brooklyn will start at 10 a.m. with a parade downtown. Parade participants will line up on Irwin Street at 9:30 a.m. Participants include the Jackson College Band Camp marching band, the Michigan International Speedway pace car, Miss Jackson Crossroads Payton Louder, Columbia schools sports teams and Scouts.

M-50 will be closed at 9:30 a.m. for pre-parade activities around the village square that include a patriotic hat contest. All are welcome to decorate a hat in red, white and blue to enter the contest.

The event will include a cake walk, singalongs, a food truck and art activity at Kate's Art School, Pete's Donuts, cotton candy at Village Peddler Gift Shoppe, temporary tattoos for kids by Effin Senses, a doughnut wall, elephant ears, Randy's BBQ at 5 p.m., DJs at 6 p.m. and fireworks at dusk at 321 School St. in Brooklyn.

All Saints Episcopal Church will have parking available and will open the day with a prayer for the nation. The Presbyterian Church will be open with free bottled water and bathroom facilities.

July 8

A fireworks show will top off the 11th annual Ragtime Extravaganza which will take place from 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 8, on the PlaneWave Instruments campus at 1375 N. Main St. in Adrian. The free, family event will feature four bands — the Adrian City Band, Toledo’s Cakewalkin’ Jass Band, Los Hermanos and the River Raisin Ragtime Revue orchestra.

This year’s event also includes children’s activities such as face painting, interactive art, an instrument petting zoo and a bounce house.

Artists from the Adrian Center for the Arts will be selling original art and the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute will be open for visitors. Attendees additionally will be able to tour the PlaneWave Instruments facilities.

There will be several food vendors and free parking and shuttles will be available at the Lenawee Intermediate School District Tech Center and Jackson College parking lots across Main Street from PlaneWave.

July 14

Blissfield's River Raisin Festival will have its fireworks Friday, July 14.
