Firefighter extricated safely from house fire in north Phoenix; investigation underway

A firefighter was safely extricated from a house fire in north Phoenix Tuesday morning.

Phoenix fire received reports of a flames coming from the home near 49th Street and Dixileta Drive around 10:30 a.m., according to department spokesperson Cpt. Evan Gammage.

Fire crews from two departments were able to quickly gain access to the home and all occupants were safely evacuated, Gammage said.

A partial roof collapse caused the firefighter to be temporarily trapped in the garage of the home, Gammage said. The trapped firefighter was safely removed from the garage with no injuries.

One of the firefighters who rescued the trapped firefighter suffered from a minor leg injury, Gammage said.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire. No other injuries to fire personnel or civilians were reported.

An investigation was ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
