Fire Country Season 2: Everything We Know About the Premiere Date, Casting News and More

Things are heating up on the Fire Country front, and TVLine is here to catch you up on all of it, ahead of the CBS hit’s Season 2 premiere.

More from TVLine

Inspired by Max Thieriot’s own experiences growing up in Northern California, Fire Country stars the SEAL Team alum as Bode Donovan, a young convict who sought redemption (and a shortened sentence) by joining the Three Rock prison-release firefighting program, where he and other inmates were partnered with Cal Fire to extinguish wildfires across the region. But what Bode was not expecting was to be stationed in his hometown of Edgewater, where five years prior he (figuratively!) “burned down everything in his life” and then left, harboring a big secret regarding the details of his sister’s death in a car crash where he had been behind the wheel.

The hit series’ cast also boasts The Closer‘s Billy Burke and Rescue Me‘s Diane Farr as Cal Fire chief Vince and Division Chief Sharon, aka Bode’s parents; Lucifer‘s Kevin Alejandro as Cal Fire captain Manny, who’s in charge of training the Three Rock cons; Black Lightning‘s Jordan Calloway as Jake; Penny Dreadful: City of Angels‘ Stephanie Arcila as Gabriela; and Guilty Party’s Jules Latimer as Eve.

As the Season 1 finale drew to a close, Bode was about to step into his parole hearing — excited for the prospect of being a free man, and free be with love interest Gabriela — when an investigator for the state attorney general met with him privately. The investigator said that Bode was suspected of running drugs at Three Rock, due to him narcing on fellow inmate Sleeper (to run off a rival dealer, she posited), his dirty pee test results (somehow manipulated by Sleeper), and the sack of cash found in best friend Freddy’s possession (courtesy of a train hopper they’d met while working a crash site).

The investigator said that if Bode did not ‘fess up and then proceeded to sail through his parole board appearance, the air of suspicion would hold up Freddy’s wrongful conviction case/release. Bode, an addict back in the day, thus lied to the board — as his disappointed parents looked on — that he had relapsed and was dealing drugs at Three Rock.

In addition to of course Max Thieriot as Bode, all Season 1 regulars have stayed put. Billy Burke (as Vince), Kevin Alejandro (Manny), Diane Farr (Sharon), Stephanie Arcila (Gabriela), Jordan Calloway (Jake) and Jules Latimer (Eve) will all be back for Season 2, as series regulars.

Jason O’Mara (Life on Mars, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Tye White (American Auto) are both set for recurring roles in Season 2.

O’Mara will play Liam, a former firefighter colleague of Sharon’s who is “very glad to see her” when their paths cross, while Tye has been cast as Cole, Bode’s prison cellmate who “has made some mistakes of his own in the past and has learned from them,” per Deadline.

Additionally, as first reported by TVLine, Dynasty reboot alum Rafael de la Fuente will guest-star in at least several early-season episodes as Diego, a charming and motivated paramedic/firefighter and combat vet who enjoys “an easy camaraderie” with Gabriela as he trains her for her paramedic certification.

Given Bode’s (well-meaning but nonetheless-fraudulent) confession at the close of Season 1, coupled with the fact that his prison cellmate has been cast (see previous item), it’s apparent that he in fact will still be doing time, again, when Season 2 opens. Is there any hope of him earning back enough brownie points to return to Three Rock (and Gabriela’s orbit)?

Short of Bode or anyone tricking Sleeper into confessing to 1) being the true drug runner and 2) tampering with Bode’s pee test, it’d take a small (or TV) miracle for him to find his way back to Three Rock….

As for everyone else, the new roles cast (detailed above) hint at another test of Sharon and Vince’s thus-far resilient marriage, and a possible rebound romance for Gabriela.

In the 18th episode of Season 1, titled “Off the Rails,” the Three Rock and Cal Fire crews responded to the scene of a train crash, where they discovered illicit cargo. Within that story, country music superstar Kane Brown guest-starred as Robin, a train hopper who helped the injured passengers… but, by suspiciously handing Bode a sack of cash before dipping out, unwittingly set in motion an unfortunate series of events.

“We have a big, rural, outdoorsy audience, a lot of country music fans,” series lead and EP Thieriot said of Brown’s casting. “And I know a lot of folks who are firefighters who listen to country music.”

Brown’s character seemed like a one-off, unless he somehow resurfaces to explain to the state attorney general where the bag of cash actually came from. But no encore for the singer has been announced yet for Season 2.

Will There Be a Fire Country Spinoff?

Will There Be a Fire Country Spinoff?

CBS CEO Vernon Cheeks first teased multiple Fire Country offshoots back in June, saying the network would be “doubling down” on a hit series that “completely lends itself to building out a whole new universe.”

First up on that front: TVLine reported in m-d-December that CBS/CBS Studios is in the process of casting a female sheriff character who will first appear in a Season 2 Fire Country episode. The yet-to-be-cast actor would appear on Fire Country as a guest star, with an option for a series regular role in a potential spinoff if Sheriff’s Country (the title we’ve heard bandied about) is ordered to series.

CBS declined comment on the prospective spinoff/casting.
