Fiona Apple Donating 2 Years of “Shameika” and “Heavy Balloon” Royalties to Charity

Fiona Apple has made a pledge to donate all of the proceeds from TV and movie placements of her Fetch the Bolt Cutters tracks “Shameika” and “Heavy Balloon” to two different charitable organizations for the next two years. Royalties from “Shameika” will go to the Harlem Children’s Zone, while those from “Heavy Balloon” will be directed to Seeding Sovereignty. Additionally, Apple has pledged to donate $50,000 to each organization if the songs do not get picked up for television or film spots. The Harlem Children’s Zone is an organization that offers kids individualized support they need to get to and through college. Seeding Sovereignty is an Indigenous womxn-led collective that focuses on dismantling colonial institutions and replacing them with Indigenous practices.

Last year, Apple donated 2019 and 2020 earnings from TV and movie placements of her hit single “Criminal” to the While They Wait fund, which helps refugees secure life necessities, immigration fees, and legal assistance.

Fetch the Bolt Cutters was released in April, marking Apple’s first studio album since 2012’s The Idler Wheel....
