Finally! TNT's Snowpiercer TV series gets May premiere date

After five years and three different networks, TNT has announced a premiere date for the TV spin-off of Snowpiercer: May 31.

Set in the same world as filmmaker Bong Joon Ho‘s critically acclaimed 2013 post-apocalyptic film starring Chris Evans, the show is set seven years after Earth has gone through a second Ice Age, and the only humans left are those aboard a massive train that is perpetually circling the globe.

In the front of the train is what’s left of the aristocracy, led by Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Connelly as the train’s spokesperson, while actor Daveed Diggs plays one of the leaders of the proletariat trapped in the harsh conditions of the train’s rear.

While it predates the film’s timeline, the Snowpiercer series will still also explore the themes of class warfare, social injustice, and survival politics.

The Snowpiercer showrunner is Graeme Manson (Orphan Black), with James Hawes directing the pilot. While he backed out of directing the show in 2018, Scott Derrickson remains an executive producer of the series alongside Matthew O’Connor, Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements, and the original film’s producers Bong Joon Ho, Miky Lee, Tae-sung Jeong, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun, and Dooho Choi.

Snowpiercer premieres Sunday, May 31, at 9 p.m. ET on TNT. Watch the first promo for the series above.
