When you’re shooting a movie called Into the Woods and you need to disguise a baby bump, there’s only one thing to do. “I was hiding behind every tree in that wood!” Emily Blunt joked in an interview with Disney fan club magazine Disney twenty-three. “Colleen Atwood, who’s the most remarkable costume designer, as everybody knows, was so accommodating,” says Blunt, who is married to actor John Krasinski.
My, what big eyes you have, Johnny Depp! The Into the Woods star unveils his Big Bad Wolf for Entertainment Weekly, on one of four covers dedicated to the upcoming Rob Marshall fairy-tale musical. Another Into the Woods costume making its big debut on the EW covers is Meryl Streep’s glam look. In the cover story, Streep tells EW that she couldn’t resist her role in Into the Woods (adapted from Stephen Sondheim’s 1987 stage musical).
Is Meryl Streep a good witch or a bad witch? Streep’s Into the Woods character isn’t quite so easy to categorize, but she certainly looks frightening in this newly unveiled poster. The Witch, a role originated on Broadway by Bernadette Peters in 1986, is much more demanding than Streep’s last musical performance in 2008’s Mamma Mia! Nonetheless, the 65-year-old actress has been ecstatic about the dark fairy-tale adaptation in interviews, gleefully boasting that composer Stephen Sondheim wrote a new song just for her.
Whether you’ve noticed or not, Anna Kendrick is one of Hollywood’s busiest actresses. Earlier this year, she filmed the sequel to Pitch Perfect, and she’ll play Cinderella in the highly anticipated movie musical Into the Woods which hits theaters Dec. 25. Kendrick doesn’t often open up about her personal life, but like many stars, she made an exception for comedian Marc Maron in his latest “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast.
