Film/TV Briefs: Tunstall to Headline BMI Snow Ball; Fox Docks at Lonely Island; Dr. Luke Taps Film-TV Exec; ‘Live From Daryl’s House’ Returns

— KT Tunstall, film composers Craig Werden and Mark Orton, and Kris Orlowski will perform at BMI’s Snow Ball at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The event will be held Jan. 22 at the Sundance House.
 
Tunstall’s most recent release is “Invisible Empire/Crescent Moon,” which came out on Blue Note in June. Orton, who scored “Nebraska,” continues to work with his band Tin Hat. Wedren, who also has a solo recording career, scored “Afternoon Delight,” which was among last’s year’s Sundance winners.  Orlowski is doing several solo showcases at Sundance in advance of his new album.

— The Lonely Island, Andy Samberg’s comedy-music trio that records for Republic Records, has signed a strategic pact with Fox Broadcasting to develop projects for digital platforms with the ultimate goal of seeing a transfer to television. Known for the comic songs  “Dick In A Box” with Justin Timberlake, “Jack Sparrow” with Michael Bolton, “Lazy Sunday,” and “The Natalie Portman Rap,” Lonely Island consists of Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone.
 
Lonely Island’s three albums have topped the Comedy Albums chart and hit the top 20 of the Billboard 200, most recently with “The Wack Album” at  No. 10 in June. They have had six entries on the Hot 100, peaking at No. 30  with “I Just Had Sex” featuring Akon.
 
For 2013, they were Billboard’s top Comedy Albums and Comedy Digital Tracks artist and had the No. 1 Comedy Album and Digital Track (“Yolo”). They have sold 7.1 million digital songs, according to Soundscan.

— Maria Alonte-McCoy has joined Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records and Prescription Songs as senior VP of Film & TV. In addition, Megan Wood joins as director of Film & TV.

Alonte-McCoy and Wood previously worked together at District Music, the film and TV licensing company for Red Light Management. Alonte-McCoy previously headed the film and TV department at Nettwerk Music Group and prior to that was with Arista Records.

— After taking a year off, “Live from Daryl’s House” returns to Palladia with ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons on Feb. 6. The show will debt online Jan. 15 on Hall’s website LFDH.com.

Gibbons and Hall cover a broad range of material from organist Jimmy McGriff’s “Kiko,” Sam & Dave’s “I Thank You,” Hall and Oates obscurities and a few ZZ Top hits. It is the 63rd episode of “Live From Daryl’s House,” which Hall and his manager Jonathan Wolfson executive produce.

— CBS has created a fan-built “Five-0” initiative to allow viewers to provide input on key elements of “Hawaii Five-O.” From Feb. 14 to 21, viewers can vote at CBS.com on the band whose music they want to hear featured in the episode. Names of participating bands will be announced at a later date.
