How the new film 'Wonder' is inspiring Miami Beach to go above and beyond

The highly-anticipated film "Wonder", based on the best selling novel by R.J. Palacio, is slated to become one of this year's family favorites.

Boasting an esteemed cast, including Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, Daveed Diggs and Jacob Tremblay (the adorable little boy from "Room"), the film follows the heartwarming story of a boy born with severe facial deformities named August who seeks to live a normal life.

And although everyone's sure to resonate with the incredible film, one city hopes the impact will transcend far beyond the film's credits. To coincide with the premiere of "Wonder", the city of Miami Beach has invited a group of residents to a special screening of the film on November 16. It'll mark the culmination of their impressive #ChooseKind campaign which officially launched on November 13, World Kindness Day.

Local leaders of Miami Beach are hoping the city's residents will see the power of August's story.

“In today’s age, kindness is something we could all use a little more of,” said Miami Beach Commissioner Micky Steinberg. “Its benefits are contagious and engaging the community in random acts of kindness creates a cycle of paying it forward — that’s what being a City of Kindness is all about.”

Working with City of Kindness, Lionsgate Films and Participant Media, the city hopes the campaign will spread the love and inspire kindness throughout the city.

Everyone from students to business owners are encouraged to take part. Explained Steinberg, “What’s more exciting is to see residents of all ages find the smallest ways to lead kinder lives every day and make Miami Beach an even better place to live, work and play.”
