Fifty Shades Darker: Kim Basinger cast as Elena Lincoln

Fifty Shades Darker has found its Elena Lincoln. Kim Basinger (L.A. Confidential) has signed on to star as a key new character in the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel, a source tells EW.

Lincoln is a business partner and former lover of the alluring and secretive Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). Introduced in the second book in E.L. James’ best-selling series, Lincoln sets herself up to be an antagonist for Ana Steele (Dakota Johnson).

Basinger starred in 2013’s Grudge Match with Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone. She also appeared in the indie films The 11th Hour and 4 Minute Mile in 2014. The 62-year-old recently wrapped up work on another Los Angeles period piece — The Nice Guys — alongside Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling.

Fifty Shades Darker marks director James Foley’s first foray into the series, taking over for Sam Taylor-Johnson. Foley is also helming the next installment, Fifty Shades Freed, with ames’ husband Niall Leonard penning both adaptations.
