From 'Fiddler' to 'Footloose': Pedro's Open Mic celebrates season's HS musicals

The high school musical season in the Lower Hudson Valley this year stretched 14 weeks, from Feb. 2, when White Plains opened "Fiddler on the Roof," to the first weekend in May, when Iona Prep staged "Footloose."

It's a long season from "Fiddler" to "Footloose," with only one week off for spring break. But for one night only, theater lovers can binge watch the season — or at least get a taste of nearly two dozen musicals — at Pedro's Open Mic at Harrison High School on May 11.

The stage will be bare. The piano and the mic will be hot, and dozens of student actors will be on hand to reprise roles they thought they'd left behind on closing night. Family, friends and theater fans are invited to celebrate the season, and the singers, dancers, musicians and stage crews who made it happen. (Tickets are $10, $5 for students, less than a latte.)

Oliver Petkus as Amos Hart from Haldane Drama's "Chicago," will perform at Pedro's Open Mic on May 11 at Harrison High School.

They will come to Harrison with no sets, no costumes and no expectation of going home with a trophy. All they'll have is a stage to themselves, hand-held microphones and another chance to shine and for friends and family to watch and listen.

The event is held on the Saturday after the season concludes, right before the Metro nominations are announced. (The Metro nominations webcast, on lohud.com, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, live from Tarrytown Music Hall. The Metro Awards will be held Monday, June 10 at Purchase College.)
