A woman in Australia who is mourning the sudden death of her fiancé is pregnant with their child.

Lilly Watts and Liam Trimmer had been planning to announce that they were expecting their first child together at their engagement party on Sunday, before Trimmer reportedly fell backward, cut his neck and died in a freak accident, according to a GoFundMe for the family.

“The evening was meant to be a joyous celebration of Lilly and Liam’s recent engagement and announcing their pregnancy, a huge milestone in their journey together,” one of Watts’ friends, Melinda Kelly, wrote in a message on the fundraiser.

“Not only has she lost her soulmate, but she also carries the precious gift of new life within her,” the friend continued. “At almost 14 weeks pregnant, Lilly now faces the prospect of raising a child without her beloved partner, while also grappling with the financial responsibilities that come with homeownership.”

Watts opened up about her loss in an interview with Daily Mail, and shared that Trimmer had been “truly excited to be a dad.”

“I have never known a love like Liam’s and this heartbreak and emptiness is just so overwhelming,” she told the outlet. “He will always be the love of my life and our baby will know the wonderful man he was.”

Kelly said the money raised on GoFundMe will enable Watts, who works as a clinical registered nurse at Royal Perth Hospital, to get the support she needs, including counseling and covering living costs and preparations for her new baby.

“Together, we can help light the path forward for Lilly and honor the memory of the man she loved so dearly,” she wrote.

An investigation into Trimmer’s death has been launched by Western Australia Police, and the authorities are waiting to find out the results from a coroner’s report.

It was unclear what led Trimmer to fall. but Western Australia Police Force Commissioner Col Blanch told The Telegraph that "everything was done to try and save him."

"Our thoughts and deepest condolences are extended to his family and colleagues," a spokesperson for the Western Australia Police Force said in a statement previously obtained by PEOPLE. "Our Health, Welfare and Safety Division will provide support to those impacted by this tragedy."

Trimmer, who moved from the United Kingdom to Australia, joined Joondalup Police Academy in 2013 and moved to Kalgoorlie in 2017. He was a member of the police department's tactical response group and gang crime squad, The Telegraph and The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The Western Australian Police Union said in a Facebook post that "they were deeply saddened by the passing of a valued member of the blue family."

They added, "The WA Police Union sends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officer during this difficult period.”
