The 'Feud: Capote vs the Swans' Finale Is Appointment Viewing
My fellow socialites: we’ve finally reached the end. Tonight, the final episode of Feud: Capote vs. The Swans will air on FX. (For all of you cord-cutters, the finale will drop on Hulu tomorrow evening.) Wondering what to expect? Well, Last week, Truman Capote’s friend and favorite Swan, Babe Paley, died—which sent Capote on a downward spiral. The writer self-medicates with alcohol and winds up in a treatment center. From there, he travels to Los Angeles, hoping to “dry out” at Joanne Carson’s estate, but the change of scenery doesn’t work. He eventually drinks himself to death while dreaming of Paley. In the finale, “Phantasm Forgiveness,” we’ll dive into his psyche in the days leading up to his death.
For those of you who are still catching up, Capote’s demise began in 1975, when his short story, “La Côte Basque, 1965,” was published in Esquire as a teaser for his upcoming novel Answered Prayers. Readers expected a fictional tale—like Capote's previous bestsellers, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and In Cold Blood. Instead, Capote chose to write about his own friend group: a league of wealthy, well-connected women, such as Barbara “Babe” Paley, Gloria Guinness, Marella Agnelli, Slim Hayward, Pamela Churchill, C.Z. Guest, and Lee Radziwill (Jackie Kennedy’s sister). “They were like the original housewives,” series creator Ryan Murphy told Town and Country.
In Feud, a star-studded crew plays the Swans, including Naomi Watts (Babe Paley), Diane Lane (Slim Keith), Chloë Sevigny (C.Z Guest), Calista Flockhart (Lee Radziwill), Demi Moore (Ann Woodward), and Molly Ringwald (Joanne Carson). Last but certainly not least is the great Tom Hollander—who brings Capote to life.
The season finale, per FX's synopsis, will show “past, present, and future collide, as Truman makes a final push to finish Answered Prayers.” Look below for instructions on how (and where) to tune in.
