Now that fetch has happened, the stars of Mean Girls have a few other terms they want to popularize.

Twenty years after Lacey Chabert's Gretchen Wieners debuted her catchphrase "so fetch" in the 2004 comedy, Bebe Wood is taking on the role and the famous line in the new musical reimagining, again written by Tina Fey.

Does Wood, 22, have any phrases of her own that she wants to make happen in 2024?

"Wave," the Love, Victor alum tells PEOPLE, adding, "My best friend has really been trying to make this happen. I don't fully understand it, but it's wave. I think it's like, 'Oh, that's cool. Wave.' That's kind of the vibe."

Avantika, 18, plays Karen, a fellow member of the popular Plastics clique. Her picks for new words:  "I know flop is already kind of a thing, but I really love the word flop. I think flop is great." She also floats adding "optic" to her everyday vocabulary.

Angourie Rice, the 23-year-old Australian actress from Mare of Easttown and The Last Thing He Told Me, suggests with a laugh that the new word should be peckish. (It's an on-set inside joke for her and her costars.)

"Peckish! Slightly hungry. Like, 'I could eat something,' " says Rice, who plays Cady Heron.

Reneé Rapp, 24, the new Regina George, elaborates: "We kept a running list of things Angourie would say that were so sweet and precious and Australian. One of the first ones, she’s like, 'I’m quite peckish,' and I was like, 'What, Queen?' So now we have our group chat, it’s called Peckish."

Damian actor Jaquel Spivey, 25, from Broadway's A Strange Loop, wants to revive a certain fun greeting: "It used to be in, but it's not in anymore. I miss when people used to be like, 'Heyyy!' It can mean anything, but it's also got so much sauce and rizz in it. I think we should bring it back."

Auli'i Cravalho, the Moana voice actress who stars as Janis, on a more serious note wants the phrase "Maui Strong" to prevail, a message of support for those affected by the Maui wildfires. The performer's Hawaiian roots are reflected in her character's new last name, ‘Imi‘ike.

Cravalho, 23, explains of the names meaning, "‘Imi‘ike is, like, striving for the stars, reaching the summit. That feels important for her character as well because she is someone who ... has a best friend in Damian, she's got a great friend in Cady, and she's not worried about fitting in with the cliques; she's staying true to herself."

The new film sees Fey, 53, and Tim Meadows reprise their roles as math teacher Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall, respectively. Fey tells PEOPLE finding the new cast of characters was "one of my favorite parts of the process."

"I love getting a chance to be a part of that," says Fey. "And I'm so thrilled about this cast that have come together for the new Mean Girls. They're all so incredibly charismatic."

Spivey says Fey "told us to be ourselves and to make these characters our own and to have fun and to trust that we were chosen for a reason."

Adds Gretchen actress Wood, "The most amazing thing about working with such a talented writer like Tina Fey is that the essence of the characters will always remain because the writing is just so good. Each character is written so distinctly, so naturally, you want to pay homage to the performances of the past, the performances that we've grown up with."

"It's like, you'll take the text, you'll do what you will with it, and you'll kind of make it your own," she adds. "But I feel like the essence of the characters will always remain."
