Will Ferrell is a comedic genius, says MTV

Will Ferrell is a comedic genius… and will soon have the trophy to prove it

It’s not often that comedians get awarded for making people laugh (ahem, Oscars…) but thanks to MTV, Will Ferrell is about to have tangible proof that he is pretty darn funny.

At this year’s MTV Movie Awards, the man behind Ron Burgundy, Ricky Bobby, and countless other curly-haired characters will be honored with the first-ever Comedic Genius Award.

“Will Ferrell epitomizes what it means to be a comedic genius and it’s only fitting that he should be the inaugural recipient of this award,” said MTV’s president Stephen Friedman.

“Over the course of his extraordinary, 17-plus-year career, he has entertained audiences across the globe with an impressive array of laugh-out-loud performances on air, online and in films. Simply put, Will Ferrell is ‘kind of a big deal.'”

I feel like giving Ferrell a trophy for being funny is sorta like giving the Scarecrow a diploma or the Tin Man a heart, but do you agree with MTV’s decision to make Ferrell its inaugural Genius Award winner? (Hmm, you know, Ferrell would make the best Cowardly Lion if they ever made a Wizard of Oz homage…)
