When we first heard that Michael Mann—the director of Heat, Collateral, and The Last of the Mohicans—would direct a film about Enzo Ferrari, we were sold. Then Adam Driver signed up to play Ferrari, the automobile-world pioneer. Penelope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, Sarah Gadon, and Patrick Dempsey followed suit.

This morning, a new trailer for Ferrari hit the streets. Suddenly, dear reader, I want to go very, very fast. In the high-speed teaser, we see Enzo Ferrari (Adam Driver) in the midst of a crisis. The factory he created with his wife, Laura (Penelope Cruz), is about to go bankrupt—and his son, Dino, recently died. Add an an affair to the mix, where he's forced to acknowledge his second son, Piero, and Ferrari is at his lowest point. Naturally, he enters a grueling race across Italy in hopes of winning enough money to restore his company and family name. At one point during the trailer, he says, "If you get into one of my cars, you get in to win." Damn right.

"Everything he's been collides with what he might become, and the company has gone bust," Mann told Variety of Enzo Ferrari, teasing the period of his life that will be depicted in the film. "His wife finds out about the other woman. It's a spectacularly operatic melodrama in real life."

Following its Venice International Film Festival debut, Ferrari will hit theaters on December 25, 2023. Honestly, it's a damn good Christmas present. Aside from an actual Ferrari, of course.
