Matt and his wife, Malina, say the more they try to get their 11-year-old daughter, Hannah, to eat, the more she pushes food – and them – away. The couple says they have to constantly monitor Hannah because she hides food, exercises compulsively, and lies to cover up her activities. Hannah’s 13-year-old sister, Heather, says she thinks Hannah is feeling “trapped” and that her illness has taken over her life. “Because she looks up to me, I feel like I should be a role model to her,” says Heather, noting that she and Hannah have very different personalities. Heather says she feels that Hannah is making comparisons between the two of them. When Dr. Phil says, “I don’t think you are responsible for this in any way,” what is Heather’s response? And later, what does Dr. Phil recommend Hannah’s parents do to help her move past her compulsive behaviors? This episode of Dr. Phil, “’Our 11-Year-Old is Starving Herself to Death’,” airs Wednesday.
