Federation Spain Boards Xavier Rull’s Frontières Platform Player ‘My Stalker’

Federation Spain, the Madrid-based arm of top indie European studio Federation Entertainment, has inked to co-produce Xavier Rull’s feature debut “My Stalker,” selected for this year’s Frontières Platform in Cannes.

Structured as a Spain-Mexico-U.S. co-production, “My Stalker” is set up at Monster Box, the horror indie outfit recently launched by Rull with awarded Mexican filmmaker Jack Zagha (“Adiós mundo cruel,” “Sin señas particulares”).

“My Stalker” follows a rising young singer in the music industry, stalked by a mysterious dangerous man who can possess people astrally.

As she struggles to compose a new album, deal with the pressures of fame, and evade her stalker, she descends into a dark world where music, nightmares, and the supernatural collide.

The film was co-created and co-scripted by Rull and María Rocher, Federation Spain’s head of co-production and support strategy.

“‘My Stalker’ is a psychological thriller with an original high concept,” Rull said.

“It explores the gradual descent of a girl into depression. Metaphorically, ‘Stalker’ embodies this mental illness, an evil force that takes hold of you. It isolates you and finally consumes you. ‘Stalker’ is a disease that enters her life, and she will have to learn how to live with it,” he explained.

Federation operates in Spain since 2020 and has produced standout films such as Netflix’s Jota Linares-directed drama “Las Niñas de Cristal” and Prime Video’s sci-fi thriller “Awareness,” helmed by Daniel Benmayor.

“I am a big fan of Xavier’s work and could not be more excited to partner on this commercial film with such a powerful message,” said Juan Solá, Federation Spain CEO and Jaume Collet-Serra’s producing partner, with credits such as “Extinction,” “The Commuter,” “Nightingale” and “Retribution.”

“Stalker” was presented May 18 at Cannes’ Proof of Concept pitching session, part of The Frontières Platform, a co-production market and networking platform organized by the Cannes Film Market in partnership with the Fantasia Film Festival.

Frontières focuses on genre film financing and co-production between Europe and North America, allowing producers and directors to present their original proof of concept teasers to prospective financiers, sales agents and distributors.

The Buyers Showcase, Frontières’ second session, on works-in-progress or recently completed films seeking international distribution, festival selection and/or sales representation, took place May 19.
