Faye Dunaway welcomed her only son during her marriage with her second husband, Terry O’Neill

Faye Dunaway has always remained close to her son, Liam Dunaway O’Neill.

The Bonnie and Clyde star adopted Liam with her second husband, photographer Terry O’Neill, in 1980. After she and Terry split in 1987, they maintained a co-parenting relationship as they raised their then-7-year-old son.

Liam, now 44 and with a family of his own, accompanied his mom to the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, for a screening of the new documentary, FAYE about the legendary actress.

He was born in 1980

Liam was born in 1980 and was adopted when he was less than a week old by Faye and Terry. Faye was previously married to J. Geils Band singer Peter Wolf from 1974 to 1979 before re-marrying to Terry in 1983. However, the two filed for divorce in 1987.

He has accompanied her to numerous red carpets

Though Faye has not spoken much about Liam in interviews over the years, she has often brought her son along with her to red carpets He was by his mom’s side at the Cannes Film Festival in 1999 and again 25 years later in 2024.

Liam also has attended multiple Academy Award carpets, in 2008 and again in 2010. Apart from award shows, Faye’s son also joined her at movie premieres, including 2003’s Bad Boys II and 1995’s Batman Forever.

He has a son with his partner

In 2022, Liam became a father himself when he welcomed his son, Oliver Dunaway O’Neill, with his partner McKinzie Roth.

“Let the adventure begin !!!” he wrote in the caption of his Instagram announcement. “Two things I never thought possible, finding my person and making one. Extremely blessed and happy that our family is getting bigger.”

Roth is a TV host, radio personality and spokesperson, and was already a mother to one daughter before her relationship with Liam. Together, they have expanded their family and enjoy spending quality time with Faye, especially for special occasions like Mother’s Day.

He went through a weight loss journey in 2021

Liam got candid on Instagram in August 2021, sharing how "about 1 year ago," he was depressed and in a "bad place" in his life. He explained that he gained weight and didn't feel like himself anymore, until he began his health journey.

"Not knowing where to turn I slid deeper into a bad place both mentally and physically," he wrote on Instagram. "After a while I was sent a picture of myself and knew I had to do something. I decided to dedicate the next year to my mental and physical health."

Liam added that he lost nearly 30 pounds thanks to "hard work, diet and exercise."

He participated in a documentary about Faye

In April 2024, Liam announced that he took part in a documentary about his mom, FAYE, that was two years in the making. The film, directed by Laurent Bouzereau, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was the first documentary centered around the legendary Hollywood star.

The movie showcased the icon reflecting on pivotal moments in her career with the help of her family and friends.

“Through those reflections, she courageously explores personal discoveries — her struggles with mental health issues and bipolar disorder, her family history, and how the intensity of the characters she played still impacts who she is today,” per a synopsis.

Liam took part in the film as the mother-son duo listed through photo albums together, reminiscing on different parts of Faye’s life.
