Coachella 2024 is here, and it’s shaping up to be queerer than ever.

The iconic music festival kicked off its annual two-weekend run on Friday, April 12, and queer music lovers were treated to a true abundance of riches. Billie Eilish sang about eating out, Lil Uzi Vert showed off their voguing skills, and Reneé Rapp sent shockwaves through the lesbian community by kissing Towa Bird onstage. Once again, Coachella is serving as a reminder that queer artists are truly the center of music culture — even at a festival owned by a billionaire Republican donor! Best of all, you don’t have to swelter in the California desert to enjoy all the gay action for yourself; thanks to the truly brave influencers who navigated costly ride shares and questionable porta potties, social media footage of these moments abounds; iPhone 15 Pro owners, we salute your service.

For official concert footage, head over to the festival’s YouTube page, but below, we’ve curated some of our favorite queer clips from Coachella 2024, Weekend 1. From the cast of The L Word introducing Rapp to Tyler, the Creator’s (literally) explosive entry, there’s plenty to watch.

Billie Eilish Sang About Eating A Girl For Lunch

Billie Eilish shared a sneak peek of her sexy new queer track “Lunch” while hosting a Do Labs party at Coachella.

“I could eat that girl for lunch / Yeah she dances on my tongue,” Eilish sang on the recording shared in the sneak peek. “Tastes like she might be the one / And I can never get enough / I could buy you so much stuff / It’s a craving, not a crush.”

To top things off, the singer-songwriter joined Lana Del Rey on stage during her headlining set to perform a duet of the songs “Video Games” and “Ocean Eyes.”

Brittany Howard Shredded

Lesbian musician Brittany Howard did what all good rock stars do: she absolutely shredded. The Grammy-winning “Alabama Shakes” vocalist-turned-soloist took the stage in a sequined, jewel-toned gown, performing tracks from her new album What Now.

Chappell Roan Took Coachella To The Pink Pony Club

Pop music’s resident midwest princess set queer Twitter ablaze with her Coachella debut. Between her shirt (which read “Eat Me”), her signature drag-inspired makeup, and a harness that’s a pretty clear allusion to a strap-on, Roan’s look seemed perfectly calculated to drive gay people to their knees. Suffice it to say, it worked, with one X user writing, “I’ve truly never seen someone this early into her career with a more commanding and captivating stage presence as chappell roan she is truly so mother.”

Kevin Abstract Got Flirty With Dominic Fike

During rapper Kevin Abstract’s set, he got cozy on stage with singer Dominic Fike. Then, turning to the audience, he got ahead of the gossip, cheekily telling fans, “No, we’re not dating. We’re just fucking, Coachella!”

Lil Uzi Vert Vogued To A New Song

During their Coachella set, rapper Lil Uzi Vert treated fans to a performance of their unreleased song “Yes.” They had killer choreography to boot, voguing and even pulling off a death drop mid-concert.

Ludmilla Got A Beyoncé Intro

Not many artists can say that Beyoncé introduced their Coachella set, but Brazilian singer-songwriter Ludmilla now has that honor! Although Bey wasn’t there in person, she read a pre-recorded audio intro, telling the crowd, “From Rio de Janeiro to California, all the way down to Coachella, ladies and gentlemen, Ludmilla.” Her intro went on to tell bigots to fuck all the way off, adding, “In my house, I will not tolerate any kind of hatred. Racism, homophobia, xenophobia, or misogyny… Respect the most-listened [to] Black woman in Latin America.” The cherry on top? Ludmilla bringing her wife, dancer Brunna Gonçalves, on stage for a kiss.

Reneé Rapp Kissed Towa Bird and Got An L Word Cast Intro

At recent concerts, Reneé Rapp is fond of telling audiences: “If you’re gay, stand up. If you’re straight, go home!” The “Not My Fault” singer’s first Coachella set lived up to that sentiment and then some. Rapp was introduced by The L Word creator Ilene Chaiken and cast members Jennifer Beals, Kate Moenning, and Leisha Hailey, who fittingly kicked things off by yelling, “Let’s go, lesbians!”

Later, she brought out Kesha for a retooled version of the song “TiK ToK,” in which the duo started out the song by proclaiming, “Wake up in the morning like Fuck P. Diddy,” in reference to recent sexual abuse allegations against the hip-hop star.

As if that weren’t enough of a sapphic feast, Rapp also shared a sweet moment with her partner, musician Towa Bird, kissing her on stage before launching into her song “Tummy Hearts.” Let’s go, lesbians, indeed!

Tinashe Got “Nasty” During Her Set

Although Tinashe has been attending Coachella since she was 16, this year somehow marked the first time that she performed at the festival. To mark the occasion, the bisexual R&B pop star treated fans to the first-ever live performance of her summery new single “Nasty.”

Young Miko Made Her Coachella Debut

Young Miko made her Coachella debut during day one of the festival, hot on the heels of her 2022 debut EP Trap Kitty and her 2023 reggaeton single “Classy 101.” The Puerto Rican rapper has rightly been hailed as a pioneering lesbian artist in the Latin trap scene, and her Friday afternoon performance made it clear why she has accrued such a large and devoted following. Performing in a tie-dye shirt and holding a rainbow mic, Miko dropped cool bars in the desert heat.

Tyler, the Creator Had A (Literally) Explosive Entrance

Queer rapper Tyler, the Creator kicked his set off with a hilariously off-beat skit in which he gushed about his love for making eggs.

“Almost burnt down the place making eggs so many times, and the eggs burnt,” he said as footage played of the musician making his beloved breakfast. “You leave the gas on too long, the thing gonna blow up. Luckily, I caught it. ’Cause man, that would suck it if I left it on and it blew up.”

Cut to Tyler exploding out of a faux trailer. Always turn your gas off, kids!

Victoria Monét Gave Us Steamy Sapphic Choreo

Fresh off her Best New Artist Grammy win, bisexual singer-songwriter Victoria Monét treated fans to a set in which she and a backup dancer performed a very steamy, very queer dance routine. As one fan put it: “Coachella is really just a lesbian pride parade this year omfg.”
