So what is Florida's most popular tradition? And which holiday activities are favorites in other states? Here is what the report showed:

What is the most popular Christmas tradition in the U.S.?

According to Little Sleepies’ report, hosting White Elephant Christmas parties is the most popular tradition nationwide.

The game, also known as Yankee Swap or Dirty Santa, “involves participants drawing numbers to determine the order in which they select wrapped gifts. Players can choose a new gift or 'steal' one that someone else has already opened,” the report said.

It is the favorite Christmas tradition in eight states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kentucky, Oregon and Wyoming.

What is Florida’s favorite Christmas tradition?

According to the report, tree-lighting ceremonies are Florida’s most popular Christmas tradition.

Only one other state tapped tree-lighting ceremonies as its favorite tradition: Illinois.

It is not too far from the South’s favorite: decorating Christmas trees, which is the most popular tradition in Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina and Oklahoma.

What are the most popular Christmas traditions by U.S. regions?

The report also breaks down most popular traditions by regions in the U.S.

Besides the South’s preference for decorating Christmas trees, the report also indicates that:

“Midwesterners seem to prefer a combination of cringeworthy and classic, as wearing ugly Christmas sweaters was tied in popularity with personalizing Christmas stockings.

“Northeasterners are using Advent calendars to count down the days until Christmas. Advent calendars, around since the 19th century, have 24 tiny doors, one for each day in December until the 25th. Open one door daily to find a picture, a piece of chocolate or a small toy.

“The West seems to enjoy good-natured gift-stealing, i.e., hosting a White Elephant party.”
