A New York official responding to a fatal hit-and-run had no idea his son was the victim of the Feb. 17 crash.

Citing Binghamton police, WBNG, WIVT and the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin report that Tyler Beschorner, 29, died after he was struck while walking on a highway in the early morning.

The incident caused road closures, which meant Tyler’s father, Corey Beschorner, a New York State Department of Transportation employee, was called to the scene to assist, reported WBNG.

“This is one of our worst nightmares,” Corey told the outlet. “When we were setting up we were saying somebody’s world is going to be turned upside down tonight. I didn’t know it was mine or my family’s.”

Police are still searching for the vehicle that struck Tyler, the outlet reported.

A GoFundMe started by the victim’s friend says Tyler was the father of a 7-year-old son named Jayden.

“His son was the center of his world and Tyler was the center of his,” the organizer wrote. “Tyler was the most genuine and selfless person I have ever met. He was loved by so many people throughout his life and truly knew how to brighten the mood in any room he walked into.”

Police are asking anyone with information on the suspected hit-and-run to call Binghamton detectives at Binghamton detectives at 607-772-7080.
