Father Of Uvalde School Shooting Victim Describes The Moment He Learned His Child Had Been Shot

Kimberly and Angel’s 10-year-old daughter, Amerie, was one of nineteen students and two teachers killed in the shooting at Robb Elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24, 2022. Angel, a medical assistant who works blocks away from Robb Elementary, says he, like dozens of other parents, was at the school waiting for his daughter to come outside when he spotted another child, covered in blood, emerge from the building. He says he ran over to the girl to see whether she was injured. “She said, ‘I’m fine. They shot my best friend, and she’s not breathing anymore,'" says Angel, recalling his conversation with the child. Angel says that when he asked the little girl, 11-year-old Khloie, the name of her best friend, she replied that it was Amerie, “And that’s when the moment became real.” Part one of this two-part Dr. Phil Exclusive, “Two Families, One Tragedy,” airs Thursday. And on Friday’s conclusion, “Through a Child’s Eyes: Surviving a Mass Tragedy,” Khloie talks about losing her best friend. Check your local listing for airtimes.
