Father of 2 Gets Crushed to Death in Dumpster at New Jersey Recycling Plant

A married father of two was crushed to death inside a New Jersey recycling center dumpster last week.

Timothy Hannold, 50, died Wednesday at the Northern Recycling Center in Lakewood, police said in a release obtained by PEOPLE.

"Upon arrival, it was reported that recycling employees were in the process of moving a large container that had just been delivered," the Lakewood Police Department said.

"At some point during the process, 50-year-old Timothy Hannold of West Creek entered the container," police added. "Unaware of his presence they continued to try and upright the dumpster causing the doors to shift and pin Mr. Holland up against an inside wall. Sadly he did not survive."

The New Jersey Department of Labor confirmed to NJ Advance Media that there is an ongoing investigation into the incident.

Hannold's death comes after a man was killed in August when he was found trapped in industrial machinery in Lakewood, according to the report.

The 50-year-old, known as “Timmy” or "Ripper," worked as a supervisor of recycling operations for the Ocean County Department of Solid Waste Management for 22 years, per his obituary.

"He was also a lifetime member of the Parkertown Volunteer Fire Department, Station 70. He was a member of the Pines Club, a hunting club where he did more poker playing than hunting," the tribute added.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Jessica, his 7-year-old daughter Abigail and his 21-year-old son Kaden.

"He loved to play the drums, and enjoyed working on his truck (that he called The Tugboat), quadding with his daughter, camping, traveling and being with his family," the obituary said.
