Fat Joe Takes Credit For Ashanti And Nelly’s Rekindled Romance

Fat Joe believes he’s responsible for the “happily ever after” we see Nelly and Ashanti basking in today.

The couple — who rekindled their relationship last year — has been going strong since re-connecting at his Verzuz battle in 2021.

On Saturday (Jan 20), Joey Crack took to Instagram Live to speak on celebrity couples. After naming former couples like Rihanna and Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill — he then claimed that his battle against Ja Rule is where Nelly had synergy with Ashanti when he saw her.

“I immediately tell them I need 10 percent of this kid because if it wasn’t for Verzuz that I brought Nelly out [during] me against Ja Rule, that’s when they saw each other and energy connected again,” he said. “That’s when he said, ‘I gotta have her.’ He was over there contemplating; he really wanted to go over there.”

He further explained, “He goes over there, and that starts the conversation. You know somebody gotta crack the ice — I don’t know why they fell out.” Fat Joe also denied Ashanti’s rumored pregnancy, but declared that the couple is living “happy ever after.” See below.

The pair — who dated back in 2003 — have been beaming from ear-to-ear since publicizing their relationship again. They even hit the studio recently to record new music together.

In May 2023, the two first sparked rumors of romance when they showed up together at the 3rd Annual Birthday Ball for Quality Control CEO Pierre “P” Thomas at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. The following month, Ashanti brought Nelly out on stage during her Las Vegas show to perform “Body On Me” and the two were also spotted at the Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia boxing match in Las Vegas holding hands.

Just in November at the “Hot In Herre” rapper’s 49th birthday party, Ashanti surprised her beau with his childhood dream car: a vintage blue low rider.

Nelly first confirmed their relationship during an episode of Boss Moves with Rasheeda in September.

“I think it surprised both of us,” he said at the time. “We both were pretty much doing what we do. But sometimes being separate, you understand one another more. You could be like, ‘Well yo, let me exactly see maybe what they see.’ We all can be defensive sometimes in our own relationships. We know we wrong but we going to stand on it, you know what I mean? But we all a victim to that.”

That same night, Ashanti attended the 2023 MTV VMAs wearing a personalized clutch with Nelly’s face on it.
