Fat Joe Butchers Sexyy Red’s “SkeeYee” At 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards

Fat Joe was the butt of a few jokes last night during the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards, after he butchered Sexyy Red’s viral “SkeeYee” calling.
The “Lean Back” rapper hosted the annual awards show for the second time, which was filmed in Atlanta on Oct. 3, and televised on Tuesday (Oct. 10). As the show opened up, Joey Crack showed love to a few familiar faces in the audience, including the St. Louis rhymer.
“Shout out to DaBaby, shout out to Sexyy Red. SkeeYoo!” he said, immediately receiving laughs from the audience. Joe was referencing Red’s “SkeeYee” line.

The slip-up immediately gave social media something to joke about for the remainder off the show.
“Nah bro why did Fat Joe say SKEE-YOOOUUUU LLLMMFFAAOOOOOOO,” wrote one person on X as another said, “When old ni**as still tryna be hip.” Even rapper Freddie Gibbs laughed at the Terror Squad pioneer’s gaffe.
Sexyy Red also reacted to the moment, commenting on The Neighborhood Talk‘s Instagram post with, “Man what [crying face emojis].” However, reality star Tahiry, clarified that “Skee Youuu” is something that they “used to say in the hood back in the day.”
Another person pointed out that the Fat Joe could’ve been homaging his late brethren and rapper Big Pun, who said, “Skee-You” on his hit song “It’s So Hard.”
Sexyy Red made her TV debut at the Hip-Hop awards, not only joining DaBaby for a performance of his Jersey-club inspired hit, “Shake Sumn,” but also for her own numbers. Red returned to the stage and rapped “Pound Town,” “Shake Yo Dreadz,” and of course the aforementioned track “SkeeYee.”
The debut comes after “SkeeYee” climbed to No. 62 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, becoming her highest-charting hit so far. She also recently appeared on Drake‘s new album For All the Dogs alongside SZA for the track “Rich Baby Daddy.”
