Fast & Furious writer Chris Morgan says fans will finally get justice for Han Lue AKA Han Seoul-Oh.

Played by Sung Kang, street racer Han first appeared in Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift but he had been killed in a car accident by the movie’s end.

As he was a popular character, Morgan decided to bring Han back by making the subsequent movies take place before his death, thus allowing him to appear in the fourth, fifth and sixth films.

However, in Fast & Furious 6, it was revealed that Han’s death was actually caused by Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) who was out for revenge against those who had hurt his brother Owen Shaw (Luke Evans), in Fast Five.

In Fast & Furious 8, Statham’s villain returned as an antihero after being enlisted to rescue Dom’s son from Cipher (Charlize Theron) and now, he’s leading his own movie as the hero alongside Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs.

Han fans are annoyed that Shaw seems to have gotten away with murder, but Morgan says that Shaw will finally have to face up to his murderous past.

“Sung Kang is a great friend and Han is a character that I adore,” the screenwriter told Entertainment Weekly.

“Justice for Han is owed. It’s something we have discussed for a very long time and want to give the right due to.

“There’s a line in Hobbs & Shaw that is right before the battle in Samoa where Shaw says to his sister, ‘There’s things I’ve done that I have to make amends for.’” Morgan adds.

“That line was specifically written and put in there just to let everyone know that he is talking about Han — it is on his mind. It tortures him, and he’s going to get to it.”

The new Fast & Furious spin-off sees the British assassin and American government agent team up to take on super-powered criminal Brixton and an evil tech organisation while trying to save Shaw’s sister Hattie’s life.

Statham told Yahoo Movies UK that he credits Drew Pearce for making the script great after being brought in for rewrites.

Fast & Furious: Presents Hobbs & Shaw is released in cinemas from 1 August.
