The latest teaser for the ninth Fast and the Furious movie features a major first: Helen Mirren has a license to drive in F9... and she’s using it. The 30-second Super Bowl spot for Justin Lin’s coronavirus-delayed sequel features the Oscar-winning actress behind the wheel at last, showing these young whippersnappers how to execute a perfect spin. (Watch the trailer above.)

It’s the fulfillment of a major #LifeGoal for Mirren, who has been pushing for a driving scene since she joined the franchise in 2017’s The Fate of the Furious as Magdalene Shaw — mother of the Shaw kids, Deckard (Jason Statham), Owen (Luke Evans) and Hattie (Vanessa Kirby). Speaking with Yahoo Entertainment in 2018, The Queen star made it clear that one of the conditions for her return was some time in the driver’s seat. “This time, definitely,” she said at the time. “Absolutely. Essential, instead of being stuck in [the back seat].”

Last year around this time, Lin dropped the first trailer for F9, which featured two major revelations: (1) John Cena is playing Vin Diesel’s long-lost brother; and (2) Fan favorite Han (Sung Kang) is alive and well. With its Mirren tease, the Super Bowl spot suggests that there are still plenty of surprises in store if the movie zooms into theaters on May 28 as currently planned. And that’s only proper since this is the first act in the franchise’s final movement: Dom Toretto and his extended family will officially hang up their driving gloves after the 11th installment. We’re here for a Shaw-clan spin-off with Magdalene and her three kids on the road again.

F9 premieres in theaters on May 28.
