New farmers market coming to downtown during weeknight unlike other local farmers markets

A new kind of farmers market is coming to the Treasure Coast.

Main Street Vero Beach is launching a weeknight farmers market along 14th Avenue in downtown Vero Beach. Most farmers markets are during the day and on weekends.

The first one, which will be a trial run, will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13. They will be monthly at first, then biweekly, but Main Street .........

The Main Street Vero Beach Farmers Market is an extension of the Saturday morning farmers market on the beach, said Executive Director Matt Haynes.

“Most of the growth in Vero is happening on the mainland,” Haynes said. “When we asked the community what they most wanted to see downtown, the answer came back: mid-week farmers market.”

The market will be outdoors and eventually year-round, just like all these local farmers markets:

Downtown Fort Pierce Farmers Market

The Downtown Fort Pierce Farmers Market is the biggest and oldest farmers market on the Treasure Coast. It started in 1997 and occurs every Saturday morning, rain or shine. Held at Marina Square near the Fort Pierce City Marina, it's along the downtown Fort Pierce waterfront with a view of the Indian River Lagoon. It has as many as 60 vendors, including some that are seasonal.

Market on Main

The Market on Main started as the Stuart Green Market in 2002. It occurs every Sunday at Flagler Park, past the Waterfront restaurant under the Roosevelt Bridge. It’s open an hour later during season from October to March and closes an hour earlier from April to September. One of the vendors is a mobile bar specializing in craft cocktails. The last Sunday of the month features a kids’ market.

Farmers Market Oceanside Vero Beach

The Farmers Market Oceanside Vero Beach started in 2008 and occurs every Saturday morning across from Humiston Beach Park with views of the Atlantic Ocean. It has as many as 48 vendors.

Wednesday Green Market

The Wednesday Green Market started in 2013 and occurs every Wednesday afternoon. It’s in the same location as the weekend farmers market at Marina Square at the downtown Fort Pierce waterfront, but it’s much smaller. It has extended hours until 8 p.m. for December only.

Tradition Neighborhood Market

The Tradition Neighborhood Market originally started in June 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic on Saturdays in the parking lot of The Landing at Tradition across from Target. It now occurs on Sundays at Tradition Square.

Hobe Sound Farmers Market

The Hobe Sound Farmers Market started in October 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic with a U-pick pumpkin patch and then Christmas trees on 120 acres west of Interstate 95. It grew to a traditional farmers market with 40 vendors in January 2021. It’s the only two-day farmers market on the Treasure Coast, occurring every Saturday and Sunday.
