‘Fargo’ Season 5-Themed Bisquick Debuts at Remote Midwest Supermarket

Fargo superfans yearning to head to the beautiful but frigid upper Midwest in the dead of winter are being given a signal that now is the time for that pilgrimage. And the message is coming from Bisquick.

Starting on Feb. 20, a limited-edition box of Bisquick that’s inspired by the acclaimed fifth season of Noah Hawley’s black comedy crime drama — specifically, the final moments of “Bisquik,” the season finale — will be available for purchase at a Scandia, Minnesota, grocery store. The batter packaging is inspired by Juno Temple’s season five battered wife hero, Dot (aka Tiger), and is designed with nods to the Midwest-set FX cult hit and sprinkled with for-fans-only Easter eggs.

As season five of the series concluded, Dot — who had just gone through a harrowing ordeal that involved escaping a kidnapping and surviving a shootout, finally returned home. But her brief moments of peace are soon interrupted by a visitor, and the wife, mother and domestic abuse survivor finds herself mixing a batch of Dot’s Tiger Biscuits under uncomfortable and unconventional circumstances.

The ad agency for General Mills, the parent company of Bisquick, saw this sequence and is now amplifying it as a cultural moment. It quickly designed the special-edition box and yes, the recipe for Dot’s homemade “Tiger” biscuits is included. For the release of the collector’s item, agency Pereira O’Dell decided to partner with Federated Co-Ops Scandia Country Store, a supermarket in Scandia, Minnesota — Dot’s hometown in the series.

So for Fargo die-hards, it may be time to make the journey to the North Star state. And get some biscuits, while supplies last.
