'Fargo': Get Another Dose of Minnesota Nice in this Season 2 Trailer

Get ready for more Midwestern shenanigans as the Emmy-winning FX miniseries Fargo returns for its second season. The first year, of course, took its inspiration from the Coen Brothers’ movie of the same name, even though the storyline very quickly went off in its own direction. Based on this just-released trailer, Season 2 has more of a Blood Simple vibe — although that may just be due to the retro fashions. Rewinding the clock to 1979 (five years before Blood Simple, the Coens’ cinematic debut), this fresh batch of 10 episodes will focus on state police officer Lou Solverson (Patrick Wilson), father of future cop Molly Solverson, as he investigates a botched robbery that expands outward into a case of high-level corruption and murder most foul.

It’s a tale that was referenced in Season 1, when the older Lou (played by Keith Carradine) had a pointed conversation with killer Lorne Malvo (Billy Bob Thornton) about a dark incident that occurred in Sioux Falls back in ‘79. Now, we’ll get a full account of that story, and a sense of the other players involved. Those players include famous faces like Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons as a married couple, Ted Danson as the Sioux Falls sheriff, and Jean Smart as a stern matriarch whose son happens to be Solverson’s prime suspect. Somehow, we don’t expect solving this bout of bloodletting to be simple.

Season 2 of Fargo premieres this October on FX.
