‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ Surprise: Nagini Joins the Franchise Years Before She Becomes Voldemort’s Horcrux — Watch

Warner Bros. has debuted the final trailer for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” (watch below), and it includes a massive new detail for fans of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World: Nagini is being introduced years before she becomes Voldemort’s snake and Horcrux. The trailer includes the first footage of South Korean actress Claudia Kim as Nagini in human form as she transforms into the snake all “Harry Potter” fans will recognize.

Prior to the trailer, Kim was confirmed to be playing The Maledictus, the main attraction of a wizarding circus and freak show who carries a blood curse that makes her transform into a beast. Nagini’s transformative powers are being exploited by the freak show’s cruel owner, but she finds the chance to escape after meeting Credence (Ezra Miller). During “Crimes of Grindelwald,” Nagini can transform into a snake at will, although she knows at some point she will become a snake permanently.

“She does feel sometimes it’s not controllable,” Kim told Entertainment Weekly. “She is bound to [permanently] transform at some point to a beast so she feels this pressure that the clock is ticking…She has powers that are yet to be explored. I can’t confirm she has powers like wizards have. And she doesn’t have a wand.”
