Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber have a complicated past. The two used to date during the early days of their careers. Despite writing songs about each other and how on and off their relationship was, the two have officially moved on. Justin Bieber married Hailey Baldwin and Gomez has dated around. While the romantic feelings are no longer there, it doesn't mean there's no tension between them. According to PopCulture, fans suspect that Gomez shaded him while both were aiming for Billboard's No. 1 slots.

Gomez released her album "Rare" which became Billboard's number 1 album over Roddy Ricch's "Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial. "

"It's officially out! I was a bit embarrassed asking so often for you to stream or buy my album," she wrote in an Instagram post revealing the news. "It felt inauthentic. Thank YOU so much for making something so personal to me be a moment I’ll never forget. All I truly desire is for you all to enjoy the music and spread the love."

A week prior to claiming the title, she asked fans to listen to her album and help it get to the no. 1 slot.

"I just found out that my album is neck-to-neck with another incredible artist," she said. "I told people before that, you know, it’s not about numbers for me, but I would love for the most important album I've ever released to become No. 1. So, if you don't mind streaming it or listening to it on all the platforms, it would mean the absolute world to me."

While Gomez is clearly regretting the self promotion, she also seems to be shading Bieber who gave fans instructions on how to make his single Yummy Billboard's No. 1 single.

"How to get 'Yummy' to No. 1." Bieber wrote on his Instagram story, "Spotify: Create a playlist with 'Yummy' on repeat and stream it. Don't mute it! Play at a low volume. Let it play while you sleep. iTunes: Buy the song on iTunes. Buy the song multiple times on Justin's website."

"LET'S GO HARD. TELL YOUR GREAT AUNT RUTH TO STREAM 'YUMMY.'" Bieber added.

Bieber's self promotion was definitely more hardcore than Gomez's. Gomez seems to still be checking out Bieber's social media. The two officially announced they were dating in February 2011. The first time they split was 2012. The couple then got back together in September 2014 only to break up a couple of months later. Rumors sparked again in 2017 that the two were seeing each other again in a lowkey way.
