“It’s mayo time!”

That’s what fans attending Duke's Mayo Bowl proudly yelled before downing large squirts of the condiment before the North Carolina Tar Heels took on the West Virginia Mountaineers on Wednesday.

The reason for the shots? Well, for starters, Duke's Mayonnaise is the game's title sponsor.

Duke's Mayo Bowl's Instagram account shared a compilation of fans chanting the phrase before consuming the creamy sauce. Even more game day supporters were spotted chugging it at a fan fest held near the Bank of America Stadium in N.C. for the annual college sporting event.

The Mountaineers ended up defeating the Tar Heels 30-10.

However, fans of both teams seemed to be in good spirits as they ate and drank their way through the sporting event with mayo snacks that were specially curated for the occasion.

Duke's Mayo Bowl’s X account retweeted and shared plenty of game day footage, including footage of two fans on the field dipping what appeared to be French fries into a container of mayonnaise as they talked to an ESPN reporter.

One man seated in the stadium was seen on camera eating the condiment from a jar with a spoon as if it were ice cream. But the strange snack selections didn’t end there!

Displayed on the Jumbotron was the recipe for a condiment concoction called the “Mayo Mocktail.”

The ingredients called for 2 ounces of Duke’s Mayo, 9 ounces of eggnog, 3 ounces of simple syrup, a dash of nutmeg and cinnamon, and a cup of ice. On a split screen stood two fans — one from each team — behind a table with the ingredients ready to be mixed.

Announcers Matt Barrie and Dan Mullen joined in on the mayo mania during the pre-game analysis. The duo were seen hesitantly trying out mayo-covered nachos.

The annual event — known as “the only game with Twang” on the bowl’s official website — acquired Duke’s as a sponsor in 2020.

Over the years, fans have seemingly enjoyed going above and beyond when it comes to the brand -- and so have the teams!

“MAYO DUMP. SOON,” Duke’s Mayo Bowl’s X account tweeted just before West Virginia's coach Neal Brown was doused by gallons of the topping to celebrate his team’s victory.

"I feel cold. I feel wet. But I feel like a winner," he said after continuing the tradition. Brown became the third college football coach to receive the honor on Wednesday evening.

South Carolina Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer was the December 2021 recipient.

"Mayonnaise has never felt so good, I can promise you," he told sports correspondent Taylor McGregor after the massive pour.
