It's become the norm of high-profile celebrities to post pictures on social media of their extravagant lifestyles, while at the same time, trying to develop a perception that they're just like the normal person.
The whole 'I just woke up like this' facade has driven some apprehensive and agitated feelings by users on social media platforms towards the celebrities that try to pull this ploy.
The latest A-lister to succumb to the backlash is the young billionaire, Kylie Jenner, who recently posted a couple of sultry pictures on Instagram, posing in matching lingerie in her bed.
People on social media were not amused by the deception she was presenting.
Promoting a False Facade
The post that is driving people on social media crazy, and not necessarily in a good way, shows Jenner in her bed with nothing but matching lace lingerie. She posted the caption, "just didn’t feel right going into 2020 without one last thirst trap😫🖤🖤 pic by @victoriavillarroel."
The problem wasn't that she was posting a picture showing off her physique, but more so, how she was portraying herself. From the looks of it, she's indicating that she just woke up with her hair and makeup perfectly done, along with the fact that she's wearing expensive and matching lingerie.
Fans weren't having it. They were quick to call out the makeup mogul.
It's Just Not Natural...
One user called out the 'I just woke up like this' image by commenting, "What do you have photographers just hanging out to take pictures in your bra girl your old news no one cares anymore."
Another criticized the post saying, " The days where it took 5 or more days to get a picture like this and girls just post them like nothing."
A third Instagram user summarized the whole frustrating aspect of these types of pictures sharing, "If only it was natural..."
Jenner's desire to post pictures and videos of herself being in seemingly natural situations wasn't the only problem that social media warriors had with her post. The attacks became more centered on her desire to have attention.
Why a Billionare Still Needs Attention
Kylie Jenner is the world's youngest billionaire and yet still posts pictures that scream for attention. She calls her latest Instagram post a 'thirst trap' and people on Instagram called her out on it.
One person stated, "A billionaire and still needs the attention of all. SAD."
Others even questioned why she needed the attention, along with the implications for her daughter and how Jenner would be perceived by others. They commented, "Girl... you have a daughter. You don't need to flaunt your bra and underwear to get attention. This doesn't portray 'wifey', this portrays 'for everybody'.
'I Just Woke Up Like This' Backlash
The problem isn't that she's posting glamorous pictures. It really isn't. Jenner built her empire on superficial looks and her makeup line, so it's understandable.
It's the fact that she's trying to fool the average person into a false belief that this is how people should look in normal, ordinary situations, like when they get out of bed in the morning.
The 'I just woke up like this' facade is being debunked and people are starting to address it with celebrities on social media platforms, which is probably a good thing.
The implications of being exposed to such deception are exacerbated, especially when thinking of the young impressionable people who view these posts. It can become a massive provlem regarding their respective mental health. But, unfortunately, this is an important conversation for another time.
