"The Girl Before" Is A Taut Thriller And These Reactions Prove It
The Girl Before is a sinewy and sinister miniseries that was released recently on HBO Max. The story follows two women in two separate timelines who rent a minimalist home — that comes with weird restrictions — in London designed by a celebrated and creepy architect.
The series is yet another addition to the long list of "girl" thriller movies and TV series that starts with Gone Girl. This series is based on a book of the same name by the British writer J. P. Delaney (pseudonym used by the author Tony Strong).
Let's check out what the viewers are saying about this four-episode miniseries.
Warning: Spoilers ahead!
1.This series is riveting. I'm pretty sure you will finish it in one sitting.
#TheGirlBefore is so good. I’m pleasantly surprised. Love a British drama and it reminds me of Behind Her Eyes.
2.It's a great treat for fans of Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
👀📺 #TheGirlBefore because I will watch anything that Gugu is in.
3.This makes me ponder:
Premise of #TheGirlBefore: a psychological thriller about a dark skinned Black man OBSESSED with light skinned mixed-race Black women who literally all look the same. Is it a critique on colourism in the community? 🙃 I'm only on Episode 2.
4.This is a most appropriate reaction for such a situation:
Me when I realized the woman who lived there before and died looked just like me #TheGirlBefore
5.I would legit bolt out of the house and would come back only with security people to pack my stuff if this happened:
Imagine finding someone’s belonging up in a hiding spot wit the words “HELP ME” craved out and ur still staying there?! #TheGirlBefore
6.The twists were totally unexpected.
I tell you what… I’m on the last episode of #TheGirlBefore and I did NOT see it going this way at aaallllll. this was a legit slow burn psychological thriller from beginning to end.
7.Come on, Jane! How could you be so oblivious?
"Have you ever had the sense of him manipulating you?"Jane: "No." #TheGirlBefore
8.We all were like this:
Me approaching Jane in Ep. 4 #TheGirlBefore
9.Quite annoying honestly:
This a lot of rules for a house you gotta pay rent for #TheGirlBefore
10.Sis just wants some thrills, maybe:
Why sis keep going back to that house? You're investigating a weirdo but want to return to the home he's renting to you? #TheGirlBefore
11.Close facial resemblance is an important plot driver in this series:
Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jessica Plummer are giving off doppelgänger vibes in #TheGirlBefore… Totally engrossing story; great performances.
12.It's certainly engrossing:
The transitions between Jane and Emma and these plot twists #TheGirlBefore
13.Shocking, ain't it?
Emma’s dead? #TheGirlBefore
14.Good comparison. Did anyone else feel the similarity?
The house in the #TheGirlBefore reminds me of the house in Parasite with its sterile, minimalist design! Did anyone else smirk whilst Ben Hardy was trying to loosen up and dance?
15.Ben Hardy hasn't gone unnoticed.
#BenHardy gets his time to shine in episode 4 of #TheGirlBefore with an incredible and intense performance. From the moment I heard he was cast I knew he’d be a fantastic Simon and was so excited to see what he’d bring to the role.
16.Fans of Selma I guess.
I'm watching #TheGirlBefore on @hbomax. I came for David, but I'm staying for the house. It's absolutely beautiful. Something tells me it won't stay that way for long.
17.He indeed is. For more of his hotness, one can watch A United Kingdom.
I liked #TheGirlBefore David Oyelowo is such a hot small man 🤣
18.Although this is quite sinister, it sounds so funny here.
Soooooo he’s only moving in women that resemble his ex non alive wife? AND he’s running the sameeeeee game on each?!? #thegirlbefore
19.Well, they don't look that similar, but close facial resemblance is an important plot driver in this series.
The cognitive capacity that I need to understand the show #TheGirlBefore is crazy. I'm struggling with differentiating both women.
20.Because protagonists of psychological thrillers have to act stupidly sometimes.
LMAOOOOOOOO now why tf would Jane put her whole crime investigation on the wall in the house she shares with Edward??????????????? #TheGirlBefore
