Welcome back to Fan Chant, a weekly column for K-pop fans, stans, and newbies alike. This week features an interview with recently debuted group AMPERSANDONE. Also, if you haven’t already, don’t forget to subscribe to my companion newsletter!
In the K-pop world, to debut is a huge accomplishment in and of itself, and today, FNC Entertainment officially welcomed seven-member act AMPERSANDONE to the stage. AMPERSANDONE is a truly global group — members Kamden, Brian, Jiho, Siyun, Kyrell, Mackiah, and Seungmo hail from different parts of the world, representing America, Canada, China, Australia, and Korea.
AMPERSANDONE was officially introduced through a debut showcase today, November 15th, and their three-track EP is now available to stream. The project’s focus single, “On and On,” is a bright, youthful track that might interest fans of CIX, and also bears the playfulness of their labelmates P1Harmony.
Following their debut showcase, AMPERSANDONE reflected on this exciting moment for a Q+A with Consequence. Check out the debut music video, and read on for the interview with the members.
Congrats on debuting! That’s such a huge accomplishment! How does it feel to officially be part of AMPERSANDONE?
Thank you so much! It’s honestly a dream come true for all of us. Being part of AMPERSANDONE feels like joining a family where our passion for music and performance comes together. The excitement is beyond words, and we can’t wait to share our musical journey with everyone.
You guys are from different parts of the globe. What inspired you to start the rigorous journey to becoming a K-pop idol?
Well, despite coming from different corners of the world, our love for music and dance brought us together. We were inspired by the diversity within K-pop and wanted to contribute our unique backgrounds and talents to it. The energy, the charisma, and the connection K-pop creates with fans worldwide really motivates us.
Who are some of the acts or artists that inspired you to start walking this path?
Oh, there are so many! Each of us has our own idols, but collectively, we’ve really looked up to groups like BTS. Their dedication and artistry have been huge inspirations to us to pursue our goals as artists.
Talk to me a bit about developing your team dynamic. What do you enjoy so far about working with your bandmates?
Working and living together has been an amazing experience for us. We learn something new about each other every day. We all come from different backgrounds, but have a lot of common things, as well, which is so interesting. We’ve learned so much about each other’s cultures and styles. There’s a great balance of having fun while still working hard. It’s like having a second family!
Do any of you have any favorite stories from the road to debut? Are there any standout memories so far?
Early on, when we first became a group and started preparing for our debut, we had one day when we got a couple hours free in the middle of the day, and so we all went bowling together. It was one of the first times we all did an activity together. At First Kamden didn’t enjoy it that much, but then he got kind of good — and now we like to all go bowling when we can!
The energy in the room was incredible, and we could feel the magic happening. It was a moment of realization that all the hard work and dedication were paying off, and we were about to embark on this incredible journey together.
What do you love about your debut song, “On and On?”
“On and On” is special to us for so many reasons. We hope our fans feel the same energy and passion that went into creating it! To our amazing fans, thank you for your unwavering support! Your love means everything to us, and we can’t wait to create countless memories together. This journey is just beginning, and we’re thrilled to have you by our side. Stay tuned for more music, performances, and a lot of love from AMPERSANDONE! We love you all!
Disappointed But Not Surprised: Grammys 2024

It’s a familiar song and dance, but it’s still a bummer to see the 2024 Grammy nominations roll out with no love for any acts out of Seoul. Some thoughts here!
Song Rec of the Week:
This song has grown on me SO much. I went on a run this morning while this played and did, indeed, feel like a total baddie.
