Family weekend shows off the Grove City College's fine arts

Apr. 23—GROVE CITY — Grove City College celebrates the families of its students with weekend with an opportunity for the students to show off their performing and visual arts accomplishments.

For family weekend, the college has set up a showcase for the arts on campus, with a series of Music Department concerts, the Spring Orchesis dance show, Theatre Showcase, All-College Sing and more. All shows are free and open to the public.

The Orchesis start the weekend off on Thursday at 8 p.m.. The dance show will be held in the Arena of the Physical Learning Center on campus. The show will have a theme of "The Elements." The show will also run on Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 11:30 a.m..

Friday and Saturday sees three concerts come to the campus. All concerts can also be streamed at gcc.edu/livemusic.

Grove City College Singers will perform songs from stage and screen, including Broadway musicals such as "Hamilton" and "Waitress" and movies such as "La La Land" and "Pitch Perfect". The show will begin Friday at 6 p.m. in the Arnold Recital Hall of the Pew Fine Arts Center.

The the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center. The performance will highlight seniors, giving them one of their last chances to play at the college. It will include music from Bugler's Holiday and Deus Ex Machina, as well as a tribute to the Air Force.

The final concert will be on Saturday as the Jazz Ensemble and Stage Band take the stage to play songs from "La La Land" and "Cowboy BeBop." They will begin at 1 p.m. in the Crawford Hall Auditorium.

Other weekend concerts will also feature the All College Sing at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Arena of the Physical Learning Center. It pits fraternity houses against each other in a singing competition. There will be a Sunday performance by the Concert Choir and Touring Choirs as they sing classic Mozart pieces on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

Alpha Psi Omega will also be performing a Theatre Showcase at 5 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday. The performance will feature some of the best scenes from other performances throughout the year.

In addition to the performing arts, visual artists will be showcased. Students' art works will be on display at the Pew Arts Center in a gallery from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
