Family-owned Mexican restaurant to close in downtown Phoenix: 'Extremely heavy hearts'

El Charro Hipster Bar & Cafe announced in an Instagram post Thursday that the restaurant will close indefinitely at the end of August, citing increasing rent as the reason for the closure.

"We are so honored to have been in your hearts for these incredible five years. We will miss and treasure each and every regular or passerby who confided in our safe space," the Instagram post said.

The restaurant was opened five years ago within the Grand Avenue arts district in downtown Phoenix by husband and wife Francisco and Azul Peralta, with help from their daughter Gigi. In those five years, they've garnered a number of fans and become known for excellent espresso martinis, which one Arizona Republic reporter called "the best in Phoenix."

'Please come support us as we depart'

Fans wishing to visit one last time can do so every day in August — except for four days from the 13th to the 16th. The last day of August will be El Charro Hipster's last day in business.

"If you can, please come support us as we depart. Thank you again, it is with extremely heavy hearts that we say #goodbye," the Instagram post said.
