Work comes second to family! At least it does in one of Hollywood’s cutest households. Upon learning his wife, Blake Lively, was in labor, Ryan Reynolds reportedly took a short paternity leave — ditching the film set he’d been working on to make it back to his wife for the birth of their third child together. Whatever Reynolds was filming simply couldn’t compete with another role: daddy.

Per Us Weekly, Reynolds was in the midst of shooting a project when he got word that he and Lively were about to be parents for the third time. The two already share James, 4, and Inez, 3, so Reynolds is no stranger to his responsibilities as a father. In fact, he often alludes to his little family on social media and in interviews. Now he has another cute member to fawn over, and he carved out some time to do just that.

“Ryan let the set he was working [on] for about eight days,” a source reportedly told Us Weekly of Reynolds’ mini-paternity leave. Granted, it’s been a minute — it’s suspected that Reynolds and Lively’s third-born is already “about 2 months old,” as the couple decided to keep the delivery a secret at first, so the family could bond in peace.

Although Reynolds has presumably returned to work by now, he and Lively likely won’t change the protective way in which they raise their kids anytime soon. “They do everything they can to make sure [the children] have a normal upbringing,” the insider told Us, adding, “Blake has a really great support system [in Winchester, New York, where they live]. She has several mom friends and loves having them over for play dates.”

In 2016, Lively elaborated to Marie Claire about why she and Reynolds are so intentional when it comes to family time and privacy. “Ryan had a nice, normal upbringing, and we want our kids to have the same normal life that we had,” she said. “We don’t ever want to rob them of what we had because then we’d feel really selfish.”

Not only is that totally understandable, but it’s also admirable. So, while we’d love to catch a glimpse of their undoubtedly adorable new baby, we’ll wait patiently until they feel comfortable with giving fans a glimpse — on their own terms.
